Digital Change

On February 4, 2021, the German Post issued the first stamp with a matrix code with  the motto “digital change”. The stamp was printed wet-adhesive and self-adhesive. The self-adhesive stamp is again available in 2 variants. One variant printed in the Berlin Federal Printing Office with 101/4 x 10 perforation, the other variant printed by Enschedé in Haarlem, the Netherlands, with 131/2 x 131/4 perforation.

The matrix code could be scanned with a German Post app on a mobile device. When dropped in the mailbox or dropped off at the counter, the shipment could then be tracked on their way through the mail centers with the app. This makes it possible to track unregistered  mail after posting and before their arrival at the recipient. The first stamp’s face value was the postage for a standard letter at 80 cents. The cancellation color would be blue instead of black in order for the matrix code to remain readable.
