Tourism

On March 2, 1973, as part of a stamp booklet on the theme of "Tourism", a stamp was issued with an impression of the Wasa race (a 90 km cross-country skiing event held annually since 1922). The designer of the stamp, Czeslaw Slania, created the stamp based on a photo of the Wasa race. The faces of the cross-country skiers were blurred in the photo. So Slania decided to clearly out-line three faces on the stamp, choosing himself and two of his colleagues (Lars-Eric Ewert, Sven Andersson). The cross-country skier with Slania's face had "J.AFTON 1972" (Christmas Eve 1972) on the bib. Slania never took part in the Wasa race himself.
