Che Guevara

On October 5, 2017, Ireland issued a stamp commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Che Guevara's death. The stamp numbered 122.000. The issue was discussed in the media and public quite controversely, Guevara being a revolutionary communist hero for some while being a violent and brutal figure for others. The Irish Post justified the issue with Guevara's importance as a “quintessential left-wing revolutionary”. In addition Guevara had Irish ancestors. The stamp was sold out within a week.
