Commonwealth Games 1986

On July 12, 1986, Kenya canceled its participation in the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh from July 24 to August 2, 1986, following the boycott of Uganda, Ghana and Nigeria. The reason was the refusal of the British government to impose economic sanctions against the apartheid regime in South Africa. A set of 5 stamps planned for commemoration of the Games was not issued. However, stamps did go on sale in rural post offices, where the news must have arrived too late.
