On May 9, 2011, Greenland issued two stamps of a new definitive series. The stamps featured a portrait of Queen Margarethe II. Only after the stamps were issued, it was discovered that the stamps did not show persistent quality. This was attributed to a faulty steel-engraving in the printing plate. Therefore the Greenland Post decided to withdraw the stamps on May 26, 2011. A new issue, replacing the withdrawn stamps was launched on December 22, 2012. The design of the new stamps was quite different from the one of the withdrawn stamps.
