Emancipation Proclamation

On September 22, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln issued the “Emancipation Proclamation” which conceded each slave their freedom legally. The proclamation took effect onJanuary 1, 1863, in all Union controlled Territories. With the end of the Civil War the Proclamation was also valid in all Confederate States.

On January 1, 2013, the US Post issued a stamp commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. There are a multitude of privately produced covers for the topic, one of which originates from “Toad Hall Covers”. The imprint however read “250th Anniversary Emancipation Proclamation”. A corrected cover was printed.
