Charles IV.

On May 4, 2016, the Czech Republic issued a sheetlet (54500 copies) commemorating the 700th Anniversary of Charles IV (1316-1378), King of Bohemia and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. A few days into the issue, it was realized that the phrase in the lower left corner of the sheetlet read “KAROLUS QUATRUS”, instead of “KAROLUS QUARTUS”, the latter translating to “Charles IV”. Instead, with a little imagination “quatrus” could be interpreted as the latin word “quadrus”, the phrase then translating to “Charles the four-sided”. The issue was withdrawn and replaced by a corrected version (35000 copies).
