Football World Cup 1970

On April 4, 1970, Y.A.R. issued a mini-sheet commemorating the 1970 Football World Cup. The stamps represented the staging nations of the former Football World Cups. An additional stamp named the participating nations of the 1970 World Cup. Amongst those was Israel.

Due to the Arab-Israeli conflict and the non-acceptance of Israel as a state by Arab nations, the Y.A.R. Post blackened Israel on the stamp. But mini-sheets without blackening are also existing. Therefore mini-sheets must have been sold before the blackening practice was initiated. An additional peculiarity is that some of the stamps do not show the correct country profile, for example the Sweden stamp has the profile of Brasil.
