Summit Of Arab League

On March 29 and 30, 2004, a Summit of the Arab League, staged in Tunis was planned. A respective stamp had been prepared for issue on the March 29 by the Tunisian Post. The summit was cancelled on March 27 by Tunisia's Foreign Minister Ben Salem. The explanation given highlighted differences in opinion on important topics like Human Rights, Democracy in the Middle East and Peace Initiatives with Israel (on March 22, 2004, Hamas founder Sheikh Yassin had been murdered). The stamp was not issued on March 29, but copies were already sold at postal offices before March 29. Eventually the summit took place on May 22 and 23, 2004, and the stamp with the dates adjusted was issued on May 22.
