On May 1, 1946 , a postmark commemorating the 1st May was used in the SOZ. It read translated: ”BERLIN / Brothers, shake hands as one!, 1st May 1946. The postman had to be withdrawn after a few hours of usage following an instruction of the Allied Control Council.
