As part of the “Territories of the Russian Federation” stamp series, a stamp for the St. Petersburg city area, one of the administrative districts, was planned for September 17, 2008. The stamp featured sights of St. Petersburg. One of them was the Samson Fountain in Peterhof Palace. However, this monument is in the Leningrad (Oblast) administrative district, i.e. in the adjacent administrative district and not in St. Petersburg.

The mistake was noticed in good time and the stamp did not reach the post offices, but was sold briefly through the state philatelic agency.
